Favourite Anime Show

I'd say Ruroni kenshin,but I haven't finished it, so I'll go with Eureka 7, which is not like your typicall giant mecha sci-fi adventure although it still follows the first of the three basic anim? plots:

1. ..The one where the initially weak willed underdog protagonist ovecomes all adversity to become the hero.
2. ..The one where a stonecold badass grows a heart and a conscious through interaction with kind people and then joins them in their fight for justice/freedom
3. ..The one where the established hero has to fend off a tyrade of never ending villans who threaten humanity and seem to gradually increase in strength throughout the story

The thing that helps E7 strike home is the way the focus is take away from heavy humanoid mechas nuking each other and placed on character development and transformation and their relationships. I like the way an almost soap opera-like form of drama is blended with fluid action which is not like the typical bland anim? fight scenes of still picture, flash slidershows, but is seamless real time combat.
There is of course Bleach which is like DBZ on roids,and the dragonball series itself which has, hands down, been the most popular anim? in this part of the world
There are new comers such as Devil May Cry making inroads and shows like Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto becoming cult classics so which is your favourite?

Did you know that the Yamato gun on the terran battlecruiser in Starcraft is inspired by# 88: Space Battlleship Yamato
and it is Believed that George Lucas spent time in Japan while researching and writing Star Wars, and that Space Battleship Yamato, with its space ships moving like their Earthly counterparts (space fighters that maneuver like airplanes, etc.) may have been one of his inspirations. Yamato has also been accused of ripping off Star Wars by critics unaware that it preceded George Lucas' epic by 3 years.
The sequel to the space opera, Babylon 5: Crusade has a prelude story identical to the Space Battleship Yamato
The release of Space Battleship Yamato is often cited as the beginning of the Golden Age of Anime

Go to a LAN, the OC one in Cape Town for example. Theres a guy there with 3TB of JUST anime.

Samurai Champloo should have definately been in that list. Tenchi Muyo needs to be put in as well! Fist of the North Star, it was a pioneer in anime!

Full Metal Alchemist was superb but was kinda rushed though, they should have stuck more to the manga. If you have not read the manga - do that. It deviates completely from the anime at about Vol8 with tons more volumes in store! Just to give you an idea of how different it is from the anime Shou Tucker is killed in volume 2 together with his daughter by Scar. Greed is captured by King Bradley(Love this guy he's cool) and killed by ________*Huge Spoiler*, Oh, and Alphonse can do the hole clappy transmutation thingy.

Have to agree with Bleach as a series too , best once off production is Appleseed.
