7300 is not a really good card, I will advise a 7600GT at least you can play Oblivion on it.
No, my advice would be to spend R300 rand more and get an 8600, but I'm sure that the tech-heads will argue against it. If you are looking for an upgrade, don't get it, get something better, more expensive; if you just thought it was a good deal, ignore it and buy something else.
And edit: I could play Oblivion on low with my 5500, and very well on my 6200.
thanks guys after comparing the 7300 to what i got i will stick to what i have for now
Geforce 7300 GS 550Mhz Varied around 800Mhz (DDR) 64-bit 128/256 Mb 6.5Gb/s 2.2 Billion Compare
Radeon X800 Pro 475Mhz 900Mhz (DDR) 256-Bit 256Mb 28.8Gb/s 5.7 Billion
got this at toms
but ta any way
The X800 is superior to the 7300GT (Even though it is an older card.). You can always use the following section on tomshardware.com to compare GPU's and CPU's. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select the appropriate card.
From what i've read and heard, don't go near the 7300GT. You can add +-R100 and get a 7600GT 2nd hand like Fox mentioned. According to tomshardware, i don't think the 8600GT is far above the 7600GT, i might be mistaken though as i typing according to memory.
wisp, hope you don't mind me asking but where are you getting that card, coz it's perfect for the situation I'm in at the moment. And my friend can play Crysis Med-High on that card, so I wouldn't say it's bad.
what ever you get. make shure it DX10 compatable. otherwise your srewed before next year when ALL the new games need DX10
ide recomend a nvidia 8800 with at the minimum 512mb memory.
LOL. If all new games next come out in only DX10 I will eat the box of one of the games for you.
Also you can't just recommend a random card. It all depends on the person's bugdet and requirements.
I'm not even going to mention that "DX10" won't be bothering a lot of people as I already know quite a few people who plan on skipping Vista altogether.
And yes, I do have an 8800gts 320mb. I didn't buy it for DX10 I bought it because it runs the games I want to run well.
well thats how it allways starts. a few game have support for both the new and old things. but not too long afterwards the old isn't even supported anymore. so better to make shure you get DX10 now before its too late. and if you get anything lower than an 8000 series. you won't have enough GPU power to run most game that should come out next year.
remember game graphics can make a quantim leap in requirements in even as short a time as a month.
if my past experience can say anything. i think an 8000 series should hold good for about 2 years from now mabey. possibly longer. depends on how much memory it has.
You said the 8600gt was better for dx9 while I said the 7600gt was better.
While their performance in dx9 is close and both cards win in different games, I would choose the 7600gt based on the lower price of the card.
