Thread: NAG forum writers circle.

  1. #1

    Default NAG forum writers circle.

Well according to this and other threads there are a number of aspirant writers on this forum so let's try an experiment.

Two of the biggest problems wannabee writers have is motivation and criticism, so here's my idea. Anyone with the urge to do so should start up a blog with the intent of making it an open writers journal.

IB recommends Blogit, which is very targeted at writers otherwise I've already set up a Wordpress blog, which is currently empty, I'm working on my first post at the moment and will post it in a few days.

The idea is simple, seeing other people update regularly will function as a motivation, and we encourage constructive criticism from people whose opinions (hopefully) we respect. Whenever someone updates their 'journal/blog' make a post here so everyone can check it out.

So if you are keen, set one up and post the link here. I'll also update this post with the link to your blog so anyone coming along can check it out straight away.

Hey, it takes a few minutes and you can just use it as a scratch pad. Of course you do write already so you may need a little less help than most ;)

I think in the abuse I've subjected my brain to aspirant and erstwhile have been somehow confused.

I've already got a blog where I put a few of my writings up, but I keep the really good stuff to myself so that it don't get stealed.

I've also got a writers guild going at my varsity, having a person-to-person discussion is very helpful. We set a date and do a few writings for it and get it critiqued by other members. It has improved my writing considerably.

Well, for now I have my long-neglected Deviantart page, but that doesn't really make for easy critique. Besides, most of the stuff there is early work, and it's pretty bad... >.>

I'll see about transferring my better stuff over to some form of blogthing, (although the temptation to just rewrite the stuff is strong). ;)

EDIT: New blog and post up, unceremoniously copied and pasted from DevArt. This is one of my better ones - I can actually read it without cringing.

Ok, got a post up here:

    http://caydentales.wordpress.com/200...ream-whispers/

Anyone reading please bear in mind that it is a small part of a, hopefully, novel sized work. I've made some comments with concerns I have about the writing and I'm very out of practice.

Also folks, Kensei has some beautiful poetry up, so if that's your bag go along and give some love.

So far Kensei, Gazza_N and myself are in on this, links in the first post. Come along an share your scribblings.

Hhmmmm.... thinking about putting one up.
The thing is though, I want to avoid becoming that which I hate: A pretentious, supercilious prick who likes the smell of his own farts.

I'll still think about it though.

Thank you :) I know blogs are easy to set up and such but I have a tendency to open one, keep it running for maybe two months and then get bored and/or busy and forget about it. The other issue is that other writing I have is pretty personal (very different from what I write for NAG) and so it may become a little off mixing my work (as NAG forums are linked to my working self) with my personal side...

At the same time, I'd love constructive crit and I think for the most part I could get that from some of the people here. :/

A common problem, which is why I figured a writers circle would be a good idea. I already have Gazza pressuring me for a follow up. ;)
