    Default Your near death experiences

Ok this is a silly/weird/odd/peculiar subject. Tell me off your near death experiences, be it real or in a dream or imagined(not conjured but thought up in a dream). Note, in a dream, not made up!

Mine REAL - I was really young me and a friend were riding bikes, I rode right in front of a bus, it missed me, but with less than a millimeter to spare.

Imagined (dream) - I commited a crime, My parents (normally wonderful folk) confined me in the bathroom, with steel bars. I was allowed a morning shower and that is all. I killed myself with a rug in the dream.

REAL again - Odins girlfriend lives on the 14th floor of a building, I was drunk, Like always. I almost fell of the building, if his girlfriends brother was not there I would be dead.

    Please tell of yours.

    Err, lets see.

Real: Nearly got decapitated defrosting the lower freezer. Was kneeling down, back pinned against a counter wall, chipping away at the frozen layer over the tray. Entire layer dislodges, slides down tray with pointy sharp side racing towards my neck. Managed to catch the edge with my hands about 10cm away, and held it there.

Called for help, but closest parent shouted that they were busy in the garden, and they would be over "in a bit".

So I sat there for about eight minutes holding a rather sharp-edged plate of ice back with my naked hands.

    I laugh about it now.

Dream; Intruder was in the house, I was hiding behind double doors. Doors give way, I fall through onto the floor right in front of the intruder. The intruder wastes no time, lifts an axe that he is bearing up over his head, and brings it down on my neck. I didn't wake up before it hit. I felt a quick jerk as it cleaved my head from my neck

Everything went black. Stayed black. I didn't wake up for several seconds.

I actually died, in a sense, while I slept. I woke up, sitting up sharply, eyes wide, in a cold sweat. Wasn't able to go back to sleep for about 40min.

When I was an itty-bitty tot of two or so, my parents lugged me to friends of theirs for an afternoon. While nobody was looking, their hellspawn'd brat tried to drown me in the swimming pool.

Needless to say, I have a somewhat irrational terror of water.

An elephant almost crushed the car I was in when I was at The Kruger about 4 years ago. It stampeded after us and got within a meter before we managed to accelerate past it.

I got stung by a jellyfish in durban and passed out while quite far out at sea. It was more shock than pain and I was very young. A life guard saved me.

In Cape Town last year me and a friend where swimming, not noticing that everyone one else was on surf boards. Suddenly one of the surfers shouts out that everyone should head for shore because a shark had been spotted really close to us. They all got to the shore within seconds using their boards, me and my friend where stuck out there, swimming for our lives, people on the shore screaming and shouting. Apparently the thing was damn close to us..... probably the scariest moments of my life.

Suffice to say, I ****ing hate the sea.

Dream: I'm swimming in the sea (yes, the ****ing sea) and suddenly I realize that I can't see any land around me. Then I see all these ships appear and they're getting sucked down, one by one. Being completely obliterated. Then CThulu jumps out of the water, about the size of a city. It landed on top of me, crushing me instantly. Most awesome dream ever, but I woke up sweating and with tears in my eyes.

Age -0.001, Umbilical cord wrapped around my throat. Born nearly breaking my own neck, awesome.

Age 0.1, first day home from hospital EVER. My dad puts me down on the bed, I turn blue and fall over backwards. Rush to hospital and discover I have a tiny baby hernia of doom. Operation and I survive, go home and don't turn blue. Yay!

Age 8, fall out of unclimable tree after improvised climbing harness gives way due to being unable to find non-plastic belt. Stave off skull-splitting rock with right arm, break right wrist instead. Consider it a fair bargain.

Age 12, in Austria, fall head-first out of the roof of a barn onto concrete. I do not remember this. My memory ends when I climb up a huge ladder into the roof and starts again on my grandmother's couch. Hospitalised for horrible concussion, nearly die of boredom in the ward until I can finally go home. Exploration of barn reveals the wooden hay-hole cover that gave way when I walked over it.

Age 17ish, riding home from school as close to the curb as I can be. Bus hits me in the right shoulder. Bike bounces off curb and flings me back into the bus, this continues a few times in half a zillionth of a second until the curb miraculously flattens out enough to not bounce the tires back and fling me into the rear wheel-well, where I'd have died spectacularly - instead I measure my length in the dirt and mourn my newly mangled bike. Busdriver gets out and harangues me, I harangue back. Walk to internet cafe on the way home, as I enter Miktar says "Jesus, you look like you got hit by a bus!". Much laughter ensues.

Age 23, racing after a snatch and grab with my g/f at the time. Catch up to the robber as he's climbing a tree to get over a wall into a railway yard, grab the handbag from him on the way up, continue to give chase. As I get on top of the wall there's a gun pointing at me, held by a very startled security guard lying on the floor looking up. Robber is running off into the distance. I leap backwards before I can think, landing in the middle of the road. Girlfriend and I stay the **** down until more people arrive to calm the security guard, who then fruitlessly goes after the robber.

There have been loads of other tricky times... Skating, skiing, hiking, martial arts, narrowly avoided incidents while driving. The above are simply the most immediate I can remember.

Hmm, too many Jaws episodes for you.. Sharks won't harm you if they don't think you're a threat to them.. :)

Anyway, I can't really keep up with some of the things y'all are talking about..

I guess I could talk about the closest I've come... Although how close that is, you decide..

The first was when I was working with a plug, and used prestik to keep the wiring in place.. Now being the smart-ass I am, I forgot to take all of it off, afterwards, and I inserted it into my multi-plug, and BOOM... I was temporarily blinded for a few minutes, and the hairs on my face were all singed (burnt).. That wasn't so bad though.. Lol, the multi-plug connected to my PC.. So for a week or so, till we could buy a new multi-plug, I was busy stressing over whether I blew up the PC.. I didn't though, to my relief..

    That's one..

The second was when I was about 12... I was playing club football, and I went up for a header off a corner, got bumped hard, and fell.. Now, as I was on the floor, and some dude who didn't see me, and was next to me, stepped in the direction of my face, with his tog, so I blocked with my arm, and got pierced in the elbow by a stud.. I didn't even stick around for that MF'er to apologise.. My parents rushed me straight to the nearest doctor to get it checked out..

I actually still have the scar on my left elbow, up till this day, and it happened in 2002...

Near death? Perhaps not, but nevertheless.. Not by much..

meh, Real: when i was in pre school, someone thought it was funny to push me when i was looking at something, then i fell into this sharp-ish metal strip, i was lucky, it missed my eye by half a cm

then when i was about 10 years old, i was playing firework with a mate, then it didn't want to go on, so we went close to have a look at it.....and you know what happened, it blew, my forehead was messed and some of my hair as burnt, meh, not near death, but it messed up my looks, which is server enough.

my looks are back to normal now though, except the mark next to my eye D:

Went to a cub camp when I was around 8. A flag pole collapsed and directly hit me on the head, skull cracked from above my left eye all the way over the top of my head and then down to just above my spine and bleeding in my brain caused me to lose feeling in my left foot. I made a full recovery but thinking about it still freaks me out.

    Two accidents , one weekend:

Friday: My sister picks me up from school, drives into a Venture in front of the traffic offices

Saturday(same weekend): My brother rolls a Corsa bakkie into a nearby mielie field with my sister and me on the (one)passenger seat and two workers on the back. Here's the funny part though, when the bakkie rolled I fell to the roof and my knee hit the windscreen, bulging it out :D . It wasn't funny at the time, but we laughed afterwards. :)

I got knocked over by a drunk minibus taxi driver, going through a red light. A few scars etc. luckily I was young and in good shape. Been mugged at knife point a few times. Drifted into oncoming highway traffic when a truck broke down on a corner, and spilled sand all over the road. Landing gear failure in a light aircraft. Assorted other crap. Oh almost bleeding out from an incision in my femoral artery was probably the most, I don't know, gory experience of them.

But hey, if you live in South Africa, you're toying with death anyway. Living here is an extreme sport.

Well, my mum tells me I was almost attacked by a shark as a toddler while splashing around in the shallows at a beach once. She was able to dash in and grab me before it got to me. A second or two of her focus being elsewhere and I'd have been nommed. What a way to go.

Have had a couple other adventures, including a close encounter with a black mamba when i was around 10(luckily it fecked off rather than attacking), being stabbed in the eye with a wooden 'toy' sword as a 12 year old(narrowly missing partial blindness or worse), falling my moer off my bicycle and being rescued lying on the side of a dirtroad out in the bush by a soldier as a teen(probably would have bled to death otherwise), and lying in hospital for a couple weeks with a pretty bad case of meningitis in my early 20's (Doctors couldn't diagnose correctly and were treating me for everything from malaria to liver failure before my folks got a second opinion elsewhere. Most pain evar, was begging God to let me die).

Most recently, hit a taxi doing around 100kph a couple years ago, wrote off my car, walked out with a bruised arm. Seatbelt and airbag probably saved my life.

When I was about 6 I had some sort of 'attack' (not asthma but something similar) all I remember is waking up and not being able to breathe. I somehow managed to get to my parents room, my mom started freaking out which wasn’t really encouraging because my dad wanted to cut a hole in my throat and stick a tube in it so I could breathe (glad he didnt tho) - and no he's not a doctor :/ just something he learned in the navy.
And I have too many near death dreams … just last night I dreamt zombie dogs tried to eat me :(

I don't know about near-death, but I've had plenty of near-maimed experiences in my life... Y'know, like turning my head while on a hike and stopping just before a thorn on a tree pierced my eyeball, or other miraculous non-contact with really sharp objects. <.<

On the way to JHB with my boet some guy was overtaking a truck around a bend. I just remember seeing a green flash as he flew past, my boet says we missed him by inches.

On the way home from a party we were making raucous when some guy came out of nowhere, shot a few rounds in the air, grabbed me and put the gun to my head. Someone screamed about the police and he ran off.
Got stabbed for a cellphone. Doctor said my ribs stopped the blade.
