is there going to be a DC++ server at rage this year
so what egsactly is this DC ? ( sorry if this is a noob question)
Its a sharing application .
Basically the guy hosting the DC server , aka the Admin , sets how much each user needs to share before they can enter the server , so lets say you must share 20gig before you can enter the server ( Otherwise you get kicked Automatically when you try to log in)
When you are in , there are other people who share , leechers will most likely only share the needed amount , but each year theres a few of us who share a few TB of data.
So in Short , its a Sharing application to swap large ammounts of illegal contents , and thats why the VC crew wont take responsibility for one.
In my past 4 rage lans , i havnt experienced , seen , or heard of any "Hacking".
And , when you say "Hacking" what do you mean with it? because as far as i know no matter what application you are using , certain things like ports etc stay the same , and the VC crew should pick it up.
Since Im regular at the OC in Cape Town, theres also plenty of DC++ing. Primary used StrongDC, DC++.
I believe it is very safe, D@rk_Sid3. Never got troubles (yet)
Thanks, It's just a general paranoid thing when I say"hacking etc" because as said I am paranoid about my system security...
Why?
Im sorry but thats just me: I usually backup all my stuff on DVDs and store them in my "archive". I also keep my small document folders (Installs/Texts/Pics etc.) backuped.
Now what I do is just re-install Windows every 1 month.(takes 2 hours)
And then all is good. In fact im not even running an antivirus program nor extra firwall.
I would say just do a normal anti-virus scan before and after the Nag lan. And alot of people port scan at rage but you just don't hear about it ;)
I was just at OC, must have downloaded about 100gb. When I got home I did a virus scan and nothing was picked up.
If you're going to be downloading movies the chances are the viruses wont be attached to them. Its with other file types that the viruses are mainly associated.
a good anti-v will pick up the threat before you even download it. And yes , you wont get a virus while copying media files , its with patches and cracks that you mostly get them.
