Thread: Just bought/currently playing/recently completed

So I was thoroughly enjoying Rage. The visuals, the vehicle combat, the normal fps combat, all of it was great. Then the authority was introduced........and I just cannot understand why. The entire tone and feel of the game changed for me. Prior to that point, we were blowing up hordes of mutants and bandits and all was good. This was the kind of shooter that I loved. And then suddenly you're fighting this military force that looks like they're all wearing nano suits, and sounds like they all played too much Fear. And suddenly I could be playing any old generic shooter, just with a wasteland setting. I'm sure there is still a lot to enjoy in Rage (the parts where you aren't fighting the generic authority) I'm just dissapointed with the direction it took.

^ It's like HL for me. The "shoot the army" parts just, well, suck.

Dark Souls - Decided to get back into it and build a new character for the upcoming DLC. Doing a low level character run, currently at Anor Londo level 19, still loving the game and can't wait for the DLC.

Seems there are a lot of guys invading new players with high level gear, then once you beat them they send hate mail, like WTF, I'm not the one invading trying to get cheap kills. Can see this being very frustrating for new players which is pretty sad.

Has anyone played the Aliens VS Predator reboot? This one:

Is the game worth playing, or is it really as terrible as *critics/people say it is?

I need to get my Aliens fix until Colonial Marines is released. And I've already played the original AVP2 game far too many times. :P

    Edit:

Also, been practicing with MK9. Starting to get to grips with the longer chain combos. Kung Lao can be pretty devastating and has some very cheap combo starters. They are very hard to defend against, and can lock you in a block stun for a long time. I'm enjoying the learning process. Going to learn how to play with Jax, next.

    :O I... I...

Maybe it's been a while, but We've Got Hostiles remains one of my top chapters of gaming ever.

^Yeah, what Cleric typed, mainly because it starts with you and two scientists running to meet them to "be rescued" only for one to get grabbed by a Barnacle and the other filled full of lead. :D

I always tend to forget the Female Assassins part of Half Life, that was kinda strange.

Disliked it myself. Found the insta-death aspect aggrivating in single player, and it created an awkward environment in multiplayer. Also really shocked at how short the game was - both in the length of the stages, as well as the number of stages. It's at max a third as long as AVP2.

    Opposing Force had male assassins.

Weird game that, in how it interacted with the Half Life fiction. Valve have always been candid on if they view the two expansions (which they themselves did not make) as canon.

I could never really get into Rage. I would call it an overrated game, but all in all, it wasn't very well received by the gaming community, but that might be mostly due to to the **** state it released in on PC.

I found the shooting mechanics meh (felt like I might as well be flapping toilet-paper at the enemies. No weight behind my shots), thought the storyline was okay, but a bit on the boring side. Can't really say it had any memorable characters either. Only memorable character was the scientist guy, and even so, I can't really remember

All in all, I thought it was a very forgettable game. Felt more like a tech-demo for an impressive engine. Basically finished the Undead City and then stopped playing. Maybe if the shooting had been better I'd have finished it, but the awkward shooting just put the nail in the coffin for me.

Thanks for the info Kharrak. Guess I'll skip this one, then. :P

I thought AvP was an okay game. D:

Granted, it wasn't anything to write home about, but it did well enough on its own. If the aliens didn't have that goddawful insta-kill it might have held up as a decent multiplayer game too.

Still, if you can pick it up really cheap (I got it for $5 on Steam), it's well worth it. When I ever get the chance to play again, I'm going to try and round up a few guys and see if I can't get a survival game going. Basically four players surviving swarms of xenos for as long as possible. If you can get someone to play it with, that gamemode alone makes it worth buying the game.

LOL, there were even two spots in the game where I died and reloaded at the checkpoint I hadn't reached XD

Whether it's worth getting, I dunno really, I enjoyed it, but it seemed rather short and most of the game you play as The Avatar instead of Master Chief (though you can still use most weapons) and even then the game ends on a strange cliff-hanger which sucks because PC gamers will never be able to "finish the fight".

Haven't tried Multiplayer but I guess if you want a cheap old-school shooter where you run into a room shooting (while duel weilding two different weapons) instead of hiding behind cover then it's worth the price.

Thanks but having to create a GFWL account just to play Halo 2 isn't worth it at all.I skipped that with GTA:IV as I just had to activate it online and I could play it...BTW How big was that update for Halo 2 just so I know how long it might take on dial-up to download,etc...

Went to a flee market, saw a box full of old games asked store clerk how much for original system shock 2 and quake 3.
She said R20 for the box.

    Picked up:
    Sshock1
    Sshock2
    Quake 3
    Duke Nukem 3D
    Descent 1 and 2
a copy of diakatana that has not been burned yet.
    Dune 2000
    Emperor battle for dune.

Sorry for the double post I kinda forgot I already posted because of the excitement I just experienced.

So me and a friend just finished Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword on the Wii.

Let me make something clear first, I was always indifferent with the Zelda games. I have played them all, and I mean ALL of them (except the CDi games), and while they are very good games, I have never finished a single Zelda game. Until now.

This game is without a doubt the best Wii game I have had the pleasure to play. So much so that I'm going to go buy my own copy tomorrow where available. The controls with the wii plus remote is the most flawless I have played on the console, maybe even better than the Metroid Prime games on the system.

About the story. The story in each preceding Zelda game is the reason why I have NEVER finished any of the games just like all the Mario games I have ever played, except for Super Mario Bros 3. I just didnt care about any of the characters in previous Zelda games as they all had personalities of cardboard cutouts. But this one I actually felt genuinly attached to every character in the game, even caring that its my duty to go rescue Zelda.

All in all, if you own a Wii you owe it to yourself to get this game. If youre into waving your arms around that is...

Dungeon Siege 3 - Awesome game so far, really enjoying it. Playing as Katarina and is a totally different character to what I've ever played before, once I'm done with this play through I'm going to switch to the fire demon girl, she is currently in my party and some of those moves look awesome. Very well worth the money.

Dark Souls. I have a sorcerer that is currently lvl 20. I've spent a bit of time farming souls in the Undead Berg, as it seemed an easy place to gain some lvls.
Anyway loving this game, the extreme gothic world, plus the challenge, it's really got me hooked. It's not too difficult, but it certainly makes you pay attention to every little encounter, as any little mistake is swiftly punished.

Been playing ME3 MP. Operation Olympus has ended an hour or so ago. Our punishment will be announced tomorrow. We failed to achieve the allied goal.
