    1) Insert disc and reboot PC. Most motherboards require you to press F11 to select which device you want to boot from, in which case it'll be the DVD drive. Do that, go through the simple prompts and let the installer do its thing. The installation will be finished in about the time it takes you to make a cup of coffee and finish it. (~20min)

    2) Most games that worked on Windows XP will work on Windows 7. You may have to update the OS with .Net Framework 3.0 and 3.5 and also download and install the DirectX 9.0 runtime, for those older games that rely on it to run properly.

Some games run without a hitch. Some may require a bit of Googling to work and some require you to right-click the .exe file and change the compatibility mode to fool the game into thinking its running on Windows XP. If you're running 64-bit Windows, you'll find that much older 16-bit games won't work and require an emulator or a copy of XP running in a Virtual machine. Most games people still own and play today are 32-bit though, which simplifies things a bit. If any of the games you own need the Games For Windows Live service, that's going through a few changes with the launch of Windows 8, but should be sorted in about a week.

Oh and FYI, if there are any games or apps you own or run that require Windows XP and only run on XP, there's a nifty trick Windows 7 Pro has up its sleeve. But I'll detail that for you later, for now you need to get the OS up and running.

Intel's SSD Toolbox is now compatible with Windows 8

If you're an Intel SSD owner currently running the Windows 8 RTM or Consumer/Release Previews, you'll be privvy to the small amount of bugs a lot of users have discovered while running the utility software. Those have ostensibly been fixed with this new release, as well as official support for RAID 0 arrays that can utilise TRIM with Intel's now-official RST 11.x drivers. There's a bunch of other new things in the utility like user notifications and Plug n Play support for new SSDs and 11 supported languages. You can download the Toolbox here and you don't need an Intel-branded drive to access the Optimisations that the software can do for you.

In all honesty, I'd download a fixed .exe and just maybe it will make the problem disappear. I'm not giving away any links here as it's against the rules. If someone doesn't help you in some other way, PM me and I'll help you out.

Gigabyte is working on a new Radeon HD7850 1GB

With AMD's Radeon HD7000 family receiving a little kick in the butt thanks to the Catalyst 12.11 beta (with the actual installer due in about two or so weeks for the official Catalyst client. But while the Radeon HD7850 2GB card continues to receive strong sales because Nvidia's GTX660 now retails for slightly more, the 1GB version of the same unit doesn't have as much market reach, primarily because only two manufacturers have their models available locally: Sapphire and Gigabyte. The latter is prepping another card for release in time for the holiday shoppers.

    Default Samsung S24B370H LED 24"

I am thinking of buying the S24B370H, but I first want to know what someone thinks of it. I think the lack of DVI is kind of sucky but could probably look past that if the monitor is good. Any reviews? Good? Bad? Thanks

Edit: Oh and would you rather take the B2430H (the LCD 24") over this one?

I'd much rather take the B2430H. RGB and HDMI takes the cake, means I can fit in two consoles there - the tech specs sheet on Sammy's site says Analog RGB which is incorrect because its actually a D-Sub connector. The S24 looks good but without DVI its a little bit of a compromise that most users will have to live with, others it'll frustrate to no end.

Samsung usually makes the best monitors so either one will be fine. I've seen the BX2450 in person and its very nice. Other considerations in your price range:

LG IPS235V-BN @ R1967 (cheapest IPS on the market, but better suited for work and may need proper calibration. Gaming will be fine though)
    Acer S240HLBD @ R2153
HP 2311X @ R2529 (used one for work, hard to find now but reasonably high quality TN panel)
Philips 237E3QPHSU @ R2033 (another IPS panel on the cheap, reasonably good quality)

If I were you though, and wanted a screen that's a bit better than most and will last quite a while (and don't mind black bars in your videos):

    Dell Ultra Sharp Series U2412M @ R2888

Not some pussyfooting cheap IPS pretender, its one of the best displays on the market.

Yeah just lite casual gaming. Popping the big question would make for an awesome gift. But not so much for you.

    Try this one.

Saw it in store over the weekend and it is a beautifull notebook and features a 7 series Nvidia for the casual gaming and the photoshop :D

Fast cpu and 4Gb ram with Windows 8.

So its not that bad considering.
