It's nothing to do with his psu. Installing service pack 3 after installing the game MIGHT cause an issuse. Just uninstall then reinstall to make sure. Could also be some type of backround process chewing up resources. Maybe even the hard has bad sectors or something. Run a diskcheck.

What he said ;) Although, 700watts looks to be a bit overkill for a (comparatively) tiny 8800GT.

Also, try defrag your harddrive, use the msconfig utility (via the "Run" command on your start menu) to disable all unnecessary services, and see what the performance is like without Service Pack 3. Upon the arrival of Service Pack 3, many hailed it as the saving grace of XP, further giving consumers reason to skip Vista, but not everyone will get the same performance benefits from the last service pack. Uninstall it (if you can) and see what the performance is like.

Try get the latest NAG if you haven't already done so, and use the Nvidia Power Pack to update your drivers - trust me, a new set of drivers always makes a difference.

And lastly, consider the slight, slight possibility that your brother's 8800GT just came out of a bad catch and doesn't run as well as some others. Out of curiosity, are your graphics cards of the same make and model?

Nukem, I would recommend that you format the PC and re-install XP. It is fine to update the patches to SP3 and beyond, but do update your gfx drivers. There is nothing like a good old format to sort out problems.

What I do is I have a separate dedicated games drive. I dont install anything on it except games. My work stuff is on another drive. If something goes wrong on my games drive I just format and re-install the games. You can also create an image of a prepped hard drive lets say after you have updated the patches. This makes re-installs easier up to a certain point.

    Hey guys.

    Problem

My mom uses Outlook to send emails on her laptop which connects wirelessly.
She has a mweb email address.
The internet works fine and she can receive emails.
    She cannot send emails.
She gets and error message, relay access denied when she tries to send emails.

    Possible causes:
I was going to install route sentry, because I bought a new 30GB web africa local account, but when i started using the account it worked as international as well so I just left on without installing route sentry.
The problem started yesterday, but it worked fine a few days ago on the web Africa account.

    HALP!!!

    Thanks in advance.

Its definately a Directx problem. What operating system, graphics card, system memory and drivers are you running? Is your system completely updated, service pack and all?

That's because webafrica and mweb have different outgoing mail servers. When you change isps you need to change the outgoing mail server as well.

Hah, I doubt it. I don't know much about mailservers but you should just call mweb, tell them your problem and I'm sure they'll be able to help you.

    *edit*
    And, log on you noob.

smtp.mweb.co.za sounds right. If it doesn't work just use smtp.saix.net. Should work for any saix based dsl account.

1GB RAM + COD5 = Eish. Either tone down all the settings in the game if possible, or uninstall it, buy another gig of memory, and re-install it again. The lack of memory is the only thing I can pinpoint at this time of night. <yawn>

How much memory does your 8500GT have? 256MB?

For one gig, you're looking at about R200 to R280. Try, if you can, to get the same brand of memory as the one you already have to avoid potential problems. If you cant, get a 1gig module from either Transcend, Patriot, Corsair, OCZ or Mushkin (my personal favourites are Corsair and Mushkin).

My motto: Try before you buy (it saves you a lot of money). Test with a borrowed module from a friend to see if it is indeed the lack of system memory thats causing the problem. It wont be your 8500GT, because I remember now that COD4 and COD5 use the same engine, so there's very little difference between the two games physically.

I don't know if this needs it's own thread or not, but I'm trying to access a ftp server. My pc connects to the FTP server, and I can access ALL the folders except the wwwroot folder which I need to access since all the HTML documents are in there. Help?

We've tested it on the same pc with a Vodafone modem and it entered the folder, however I tried connecting from another pc on our internet connection today and it wouldn't work either. This gives me the idea that my ISP is blocking something, but my ISP blames the FTP-server providor and vice-versa. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Might not be your isp. Could be your router blocking certain ports.

Could be, but i can connect to the ftp server. Just not the wwwroot folder. Could it still block it?

Its not possible for a router to block a folder. Perhaps you've locked yourself out of the folder because you dont have all the correct folder permissions?
