My success was shortlived as I tried to start up Crysis 2 and I got the same display error where the picels freak out and display the wrong colours. The main menu of crysis , it started showing neon green picels on screen and my pc froze. Any help on getting the gfx card stable WHILE keeping the 3.2ghz clock speed will be appriciated.

From what I know it is the graphix card, where I need to set pci-e frequency higher. But if I change it to 101 it simply doesnt start up. Any ideas on what i should change it to or if I should change it at all???
    Thanks!

    Hi guys
I just wanted to let all of you know that I pulled off my 3.2 GHz overclock!

Before the Graphics card was giving an overheating problem. So I removed the cooler and reapplied thermal paste.

Thanks for all the tips , the only reason i want to post this is because it is my first try at any overclocking , ever!

I'll keep posting as I have a date with an AMD Athlon 2400+ on friday , with 30kg's of dry ice.
    Wish me luck!

Hey guys wow havent been on this forum for lonnnnng~~ i got a 612S in december and manage overclock 3.8Ghz with my i7 920 first gen. the cooler is really good if anyone still wants to know. it idles at about 45C and goes to about 70C underload at 3.8GhZ, but still cant get a 4.0Ghz stable overclock =(

If you haven't done so yet, you may want to try a dual fan setup on the 612S. The 920 is a low clocked CPU and 3.8GHz is fairly decent for it (taking into account the 1st gen i7's are known to run hot as hell), I'd be satisfied if I were you.

Frixin my I 7 920 runs 3.8Ghz and that is where it stays. MY cpu is 34 on idle and 50 max on load . V8 cooler and Antec DF -85

Step 0 and 1.35 Vcore. I used this Guide

can someone please help. want to overclock a fx-8120 so installed an antec kuhler 920. thing is when i try check temps i get the following

    AMD overdrive shows
    Cores max 59C
    tmpin0 max 33c
    tmpin1 max 38c
    tmpin2 max 51c

    HWmonitor shows
    Cores max 48C
    tmpin0 max 33c
    tmpin1 max 60c
    tmpin2 max 60c

Which should I use and worry about and which sould i just ignore? the liquid temp never goes higher than 40c.

Use both programs to monitor your temps. In fact, you can even add in CPU-Z to monitor frequencies to give you an overall idea of how things are going. An FX processor under a watercooled unit should be around 40 degrees idle, around 55-60 degrees under load. So far it looks like things are fine, though you didn't say if these readings were under load or idle.

oops idle temps below. am using CPU-z was mostly worried about the temps as i read that the fx can max handle 61c and am getting different temp readings.

    AMD overdrive shows
    Cores max 30C
    tmpin0 max 33c
    tmpin1 max 38c
    tmpin2 max 30c

    HWmonitor idle shows
    Cores max 19C
    tmpin0 max 34c
    tmpin1 max 33c
    tmpin2 max 30c

The actual max is higher than that. 61 degrees is the limit at which the FX starts downclocking to protect itself with AMD C&Q (Cool and Quiet) enabled in the BIOS. I've seen higher temps as well and around 80 is when the processor starts shutting down modules to conserve heat, eventually completely switching off the whole rig.

So far it looks like the cooler is working, so you can look at increasing clock speeds now. Just remember to disable C&Q to help with the overclocking and to give you that speed boost all the time.

Can someone help me with overclocking my i7 2600k, I got it to 4.4Ghz on my Intel P67BG, but every time I try to go higher my pc won't boot

would like to get it to 4.8Ghz, any help would be appreciated thanx

We're going to need a lot more info than that dude. Firstly we need your exact specs, most importantly:

    CPU Cooler
    RAM
    Motherboard BIOS

What settings are you running currently?

What else are you changing besides multiplier ratios?

It seems like your core voltage may be low. Have you run something along the lines of Prime95 or 3DMark yet to bench and stress the CPU/RAM at the current overclock status (4.4GHz)?

    Hey guys,

I just bought a new pc (thanks to Wesley's awesome advice) and its really great. Of course though, its always good to have a little better :D so I was hoping to overclock it, just a bit :) I've never done any real overclocking before and don't really know where to start. I just want to do a little at a time as I am really scared I break my new pc lol. So where should I start? EasyTune6 came with my board, but as soon as I pressed the "Quick Boost" option and restarted the pc wouldn't start. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

    My specs are:

    Intel i7 3770K, 3.4GHz, LGA1155, Quad Core
    GIGABYTE Z77X-UD3H
    Corsair TX650M, 650w
    INNOVISION N680-1DDN-E5DS, GTX680, 2GB 256BIT GDDR5, SLI, PCI-E 3.0 (X16), SUPPO
    CORSAIR CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 / CMX8GX3M2B1600C9 , XMS3 WITH HEATSINK , 4GB X 2 KIT

It also has a SSD if that will help.

    Thanks in advance!

Firstly, what CPU cooler are you using? I'm assuming the stock one since you haven't listed it?

Quick Boost (if it's like a kind of Turbo Boost) should actually be very viable on a stock cooler, so that's why I'm still sitting here thinking this one over. I may think it's because of possible BIOS issues, maybe RAM incompatibility if Quick Boost simply increases FSB speed and the RAM is pressed already. Doesn't the 3770K already sport a 1600MHz FSB speed? The answer may simply be: Increase multiplier instead of FSB.

Firstly, LegitReviews did a lengthly piece on overclocking the i7 3770K, so read through that first.

I'd recommend you start by leaving BLCK settings on the default 100 and force the RAM to stay at 800Mhz speeds to avoid any frequency changes. Disable any power saving features and Turbo Boost to make sure nothing interferes with your testing. Your multiplier starts at a default of x34. Multiply that ratio by your BLCK speed and you get your clock speed: 3.4Ghz. Push up that multiplier to x39 and you'll land up at 3.9Ghz. At that point if you're happy that Windows boots and things still work, raise the BLCK speed to 101 and put the multiplier up to 40 to break the 4Ghz barrier. If things are still fine, move to a BLCK of 102 and raise the multiplier to a final x42. This should give you 4.2Ghz without voltage or memory changes required.

If you want to move any further than that though, you'll need a better cooling solution and a little more voltage. 4.2Ghz is the limit of using the stock cooler with an Ivy Bridge processor, as you'll reach just a bit over 85 degrees on full load on all cores. Normal air coolers don't work as well as they should at this point on Ivy Bridge because the transistors are now stacked on top of each other, increasing heat generated per cm2. That means companies like Cooler Master need to go back to the drawing board and figure out better ways of conducting that heat (great hope for liquid vapour chambers). For overclockers the best solutions at the moment are water cooling, refrigeration, oil and liquid nitrogen.

If you're up to the challenge later, you can also read up and try out Anandtech's Undervolting settings that they used on their i7-3770K. While a lot of people won't be able to overclock as high as review samples for now, undervolting to around 0.9v should be possible for most people. Anandtech managed to do 3.9Ghz on 0.9v, so it should be possible (in theory) to get to 4 or even 4.1Ghz on 0.95v. Bear in mind that it won't bring you extra performance, but does help to bring temperatures down quite a bit.

    Hey,

So I tried the Quick Boost again and it worked this time :) Wierd, but no complaining.

Thanks though for all the advice. When I get some free time I will look into it with more depth, I'm interested to see what this pc can do :)

    Thanks again
