Thread: The Cheaper Gaming Guide

    Default The Cheaper Gaming Guide

    Hi All,

Thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where users can post news on gaming sales, or just any specials you see in your local retailer (whether brick-and-mortar or online), or even a good deal you see in a 2nd hand store that other people might want to take up.

Thanks to Azimuth everybody has hopefully ordered their copies UT3 from Take2 / Kalahari or wherever (they're selling out quickly), as well as GRiD and Devil May Cry 4 which were going for insane prices.

Today I spotted Gears of War 2 on the Musica website for R499.95. Their site is a bit odd, Halo 3 is classified under "Gospel" ;)

    Didn't even know about them.

Would be cool if something like this could be made sticky, but with all the places listed where you can buy games online in South Africa. So it's easier to find a bargain plus will stop some places from asking R899 for Gears Of War 2 for example...

The best places to buy IMO is either www.kalahari.net or www.take2.co.za. Take2 is generally cheaper but Kalahari offers free shipiing for orders over R350 \m/ You can pick up good bargains from auction sites like www.bidorbuy.co.za but only buy from trusted sellers (guys with a lot of positive ratings, and try to stay away from overseas sellers as there are usually lots of grief involved).

I haven't tried www.evogames.co.za yet but with those prices I would consider buying from them (plus they have Microsoft Points and Rock Band 2 - must buy as s oon as I get a guitar).

The price for Gears of War 2 went up to R999 retail because the distributor raised their prices, then the consumers raised their pitchforks in protest, and Microsoft intervened, the price went down to R699.95 again (although the Incredible Connection website was still advertising it at R999 yesterday, but now its listed as R699 "ON PROMOTION" lol). Just go buy it at Musica for R499.95 people!

But idea of the thread is to list any bargains really. Gaming is an expensive luxury, and not everybody can afford to buy the latest games at full price. 2nd hand games are not a problem for me, as long as they are in good condition and from a shop I know. I have bought 3 games for Xbox since I got mine in December (bundled with GoW2), and they cost me R770 in total (Grid, UT3 and GTA IV)

Secondhand games is becoming a real commodity. I really struggle to find latest second hand games i.e for 360. They sell like hot cakes and if you're not quick you miss out on a deal. Glad to see the etailers are trying to make it more affordable.

I am currently buying a lot off "the best of/classics/exclusive collections" as new games IMO are just getting to damn expensive .You pay R99.00 per game or trilogy and i have increased my collection by 15 games in 6 months.I know that these are older games but at least i dont have any online activation to do or have to worry about a upgrade every game that i buy. At the moment playing "Beyond good and evil" and loving it

Burnout Paradise has been spotted at a number of places for under R200! Zaps has it listed on their site for R177. A definite must-buy for those looking for an awesome racing game. The tons of free DLC doesn't hurt either.
