Prototype 2 goes live action

Activision’s marketing machine powers onwards as we near the release of helicopter-hating open-world action title Prototype 2, due out on the 24th of April on Xbox 360 and PS3. There’s now a live-action short film thingy, every bit as ludicrously over the top as the game itself.

New protagonist James Heller’s tragedy-fueled motivation gets some spotlight, and it really makes me hopeful that Prototype 2‘s story will be more than just an excuse to punch things with meaty hammer-hands and Hulk-smash tanks with their own turrets. Former protagonist Alex Mercer’s in there as well, claws and all. And… well, yeah: just go watch it for yourself. It’s beyond the break.

Let Max shoot you in the face in slooooooow-motionnnnnnn

Bullet Time. It’s practically synonymous with the Max Payne series. It’s also synonymous with a series of science fiction films that starred Keanu “One Look” Reeves. So what if those films thought of the idea first; when I hear the term Bullet Time I think Max Payne.

We’re kind of excited about Max Payne 3; can you tell? The latest video in the “Design and Technology Series” cranks our excitement up to “Super Excited”, which is one notch above ordinary “Excited”. This is a big deal.

This episode is all about Bullet Time and the advancements the team has made regarding the heart of Max Payne 3’s gameplay. While the mechanic itself might not have changed that much since the previous titles, the advanced physics and that glorious Euphoria engine have certainly increased the OMG factor. Hit the jump; wipe up the resulting drool; pre-order; get excited.

Suda 51 announces new game

So, Suda 51 and his team over at Grasshopper Manufacture have been busy little bees of late. Since putting out the cult hit Shadows of the Damned, the studio has announced a bunch of upcoming titles ranging from the Kinect exclusive Diabolical Pitch to the super-epic-looking-zombie-cheerleader-splatterfest-of-awesome Lollipop Chainsaw. If that’s not enough, there’s also a 3DS game in the works over at Grasshopper, but that’s yet to be given a Western release date.

Now there’s one more to add to the list: Killer is Dead. The game is not a sequel to earlier Suda 51 game Killer7, but it will retain the developer’s fascination with assassins. In the game you play an Executioner whose job is to travel the world, ending the lives of “S level criminals”. We’re guessing those are the worst kind.

According to Japanese magazine Famitsu, Killer is Dead will feature sword play similar to No More Heroes. The game has only just been revealed so there’s no mention of a western publisher just yet. Don’t be surprised if Warner Bros. picks this up like they did Lollipop Chainsaw. We’ll keep you posted as soon as more details arise.

New story content DLC leaked for Batman: Arkham City

It looks as if we’ve got some more DLC heading in our direction for last year’s Batman: Arkham City. The content was outed earlier by website PS3Trophies, which managed to get hold of a list of Trophies that will be appearing in the yet to be revealed DLC.

Judging by the descriptions of the Trophies, the new DLC will focus on Robin and Harley Quinn in a new story mode expansion to Arkham City. Our guess is that Harley starts causing problems and it’s up to Robin to sort things out – quite considerate of him seeing as how Bats needs some well-deserved R and R after the game’s main campaign.

Eurogamer is reporting that the game’s publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, has declined to comment on the reveal of this possible DLC, which normally indicates that somebody has let slip something they shouldn’t have. Expect an imminent reveal by the publisher – maybe even this weekend considering PAX East kicks off this Friday. Hit the jump for the Trophy list.

Need a good reason to get excited for Prototype 2?

Well, how about 11 good reasons? This new trailer (embedded beyond the jump) for the upcoming sandbox action-a-thon shows off what you get when you combine ludicrous amounts of alcohol with game development: utter, unfettered madness. We’re not actually sure if alcohol was involved, but it sure seems that way. The original Prototype let loose a similar video in the months leading up to its release.

It seems fitting to post this trailer, given that Prototype 2 is our April issue’s cover. I had the chance to play pre-release code of the sequel a short while ago, and I can tell you this: it’s certainly Prototype, and it’s somehow more destruction-filled than its maker. Which is saying a lot. Be sure to pick up the magazine this month for more info on the game.

Now, let’s watch.

Ubisoft unveils three special editions for Assassin’s Creed III

On 31 October, Ubisoft will release Assassin’s Creed III. The publisher is making sure that everyone knows that this new entry into their popular franchise will be the biggest launch in the company’s history. It’s also the biggest and most ambitious game they’ve done to date.

To drive those points home a little more, Ubisoft recently revealed that they will be launching the game with three different special editions, and each gets a fancy name. The cream of the crop has been dubbed “The Freedom Edition”; the mid-level special edition is called “The Join or Die Edition”; finally the entry-level special edition is called, rather boringly, “The Special Edition”, which doubles as a great example of the saying “you get what you pay for”.

Hit the jump for pictures and details, and we’ll throw in the latest Assassin’s Creed III video showing off a little more of Connor’s arsenal.

Leaked AC3 screens show canoes and beavers

Assassin’s Creed III is this little game that Ubisoft has been quietly tinkering away on for the last few years. It’s coming out in October this year and stars a brand new assassin called Connor who is half British and half Native American.

Since the game’s premature reveal, thanks to an initial leak courtesy of Best Buy, there’s been a rather persistent trickle of information regarding the game. The fact that ninety percent of the information revealed so far has been because of leaks is neither here nor there.

Now we get this new batch of six screenshots that have skipped an embargo date by a couple of days and wound up on NeoGAF. You can find them all after the jump, including one that shows Connor taking a relaxing paddle in a canoe surrounded by a bunch of beavers – it’s not as dirty as it sounds, you perverts.

Check out Lollipop Chainsaw’s voice talent

Watching this, I’m struggling to think of games that would be more fun to provide voice acting for than upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw. It’s a behind the scenes look at the voice acting for the game, and it turns out that there are some renowned names working on making the voices in this utterly mad zombie-slaying cheerleader simulator fittingly bizarre.

Tara Strong, who recently voiced Harley Quinn in Batman: Arkham City, is your voice of Lollipop Chainsaw‘s Juliet Starling. Nick, also known as the disembodied head of Juliet’s boyfriend strapped indelicately to her person, is voiced by Michael Rosenbaum. That name you may recognise as the chap who played Lex Luthor in that shameful collection of video footage in which it only took several million episodes for Superman himself to learn that Superman can fly. D’oh!

There’s more voice talent to discover in the video embedded past the jump. Whenever we see Michael Rooker, we feel the overwhelming desire to drop everything we’re doing and watch The Walking Dead. By the way, check out the game’s official site here.

Let’s watch Ratohnhaké:ton in action for the first time

Man, I thought I had a virtually unpronounceable name; the new protagonist for Assassin’s Creed III just totally tomahawked my opinion in the brains. Which, incidentally, is what he does to numerous people in this reveal trailer for the latest instalment in the wildly successful Assassin’s Creed series.

Fortunately, Ratohnhaké:ton (pronounced “Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo” according to Ubisoft reps) has another name: Connor. He’ll have a major role to play as the ancient battle between the Templars and Assassins finds its way to the New World.

The game has been built on an entirely new engine called the “Ubisoft-AnvilNext” engine. The Assassin’s Creed team in Ubisoft has been working on the game for years already, and it is set to be the largest and most detailed outing yet. Hit the jump for the trailer.
