So I’ve been here full-time for just shy of a full year and its been a great experience. Throughout 2012 I’ve tracked technology trends, reported on some of the most interesting technical achievements and met some great people through the awesomesauce that is rAge. So what’s in store for the new year? Loads more tech than you can shake a stick at, lemme tell you. I’ll run ten predictions by you – let’s see how close I get to the truth.

Its a weird title, I know (when Telkom does anything good, its generally weird or unexpected), but those were my first thoughts when I opened my news feeds last week in preparation to begin writing again for 2013. I’ll get straight to the point – capped Telkom accounts once again have a soft cap, except this time its not limited to local-only data. Once your cap runs out from February the 1st, you’ll still be able to access Facebook, Twitter and most other websites that you use. We’re still a ways away from the network change, so hit the button to find out what’s known so far.

You heard me, its FREE. Go on, get it already, it should be in your library now, waiting for you to click on that “Install” button. I have no idea if this is for forever, or just for the week because the world will be ending soon, but I have no time limit to download it (56k, you won’t finish before the world ends. I’m sorry). Its only a 3.8GB download and everything looks legit so far. Valve had Portal for free around the same time last year, so they could be slowly gearing up for their Christmas sale.

Note: If you don’t have it already, let me know in the comments below? I have a rather small group of Steam friends and everyone else already has the game, so I can’t verify if I’m just special or if everyone’s getting the same treatment.

UPDATE: Okay, just click the “Read More” button, something strange is going on here.

I’ve known about Project Fiona for a while since it was first posted on Razer’s Facebook page back in January. The company released a teaser of their idea and asked on a Facebook poll later on what their fans thought of it – ten thousand likes were required to give the company incentive to begin development (its now up to 15,000). Basically, its a larger, heavier version of Nintendo’s touch controller they ship with the Wii U. And now, the company finally released some specs and an idea of the price. Will it be a commercial not-success as was the case with the Razer Blade?

…Using robots! A recent study by the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) – a world leader in minimally invasive and robotic surgery – theorised that due to our naturally more impressive hand-eye coordination that gamers may be better suited to controlling robots used for precision invasive surgery.

“After I take out his heart, I’m fragging some noobs on BF3! You guys up for a LAN this weekend?”

Guess what? Turns out they were right from the start.

Dear Overmind,

Hi, how are you? Actually, I’m not sure you can even read this, because you’re not plugged in. I know, I know, it’s been about seven months now since I moved into this flat, but there you are, a great black behemoth with no cables to give you life. I think they’re in a cupboard somewhere.

I don't open this cupboard very often.

Behind the fish flakes, maybe.

It would be like this:

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath

This is immensely important stuff, so listen up maggot. Steam is apparently getting its long-anticipated Oddworld infusion this month. Abe’s Oddysee and Abe’s Exoddus have been available on Valve’s digital distribution service for a while now, but former Xbox exclusives Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath will soon join them as part of the Oddboxx collection.

PlayStation 3 owners will get an updated, HD version of Stranger’s Wrath in April next year. It’s not clear yet if the upcoming Steam version will get the same type of HD makeover that the PS3 version is receiving, or if it’ll just be a straight port of the Xbox original, but either way - this is exciting news. Steam is making it increasingly difficult for me to afford food every month.

Expect more details soon.

Your Mom

Please note: NAG does not condone the insulting of mothers on the Internet. It's incredibly distasteful. LOL.

It’s frikkin’ Friday! You are not ready for Friday’s awesome. Chances are you’re going to enjoy some quality gaming this weekend, some of which may involve wading into online waters. Having the size and effectiveness of your reproductive organs brought into question is a pretty common event in online gaming – regardless of what platform you’re gaming on. All of us here at the NAG office have dished out and taken our fair share of smacktalk, but hilarious as it is most of the time, it does kinda distract us from doing what we came online to do in the first place: kill dudes and have fun.

As part of their Immersion series, the folks at Rooster Teeth found themselves a US Special Forces veteran and had him shoot some bullets down a firing range in the name of science and truth. The first ten shots were fired with zero distractions. For the next ten though, they unleashed the Mega 64 crew on the trained soldier. I’m not really sure insulting a man wielding a high-powered rifle is smart, but it’s definitely entertaining.

Insults are hurled, birds are flipped and LOLs are had. Here’s the video so you can see for yourself the effect of smacktalk on a US Special Forces veteran:

Seriously kids, try and keep the online interactions civil. And please – keep your opponent’s mom out of it. Mr. T will set you straight:
