As a retired World of Warcraft player, sitting down to spend a few hours with the starting zone of the upcoming expansion Mists of Pandaria, is a bit like someone on a diet going to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Not to eat, but just to check out the menu and see how nice the place is.

So it’s kinda sucky, but not too bad. Did my time with the xpac make me want to dive back into WoW? Nope. It does not represent a significant enough of a change or refresh to pull me back in. Granted, the pet battle system and new talent tree system were not on show, but even if they were I doubt it would have made a difference.

However, is the new area, race and class worth the time for someone new to WoW and loves pandas? Totally.

You can read my impressions of the new race and class after the break. The starting area only covered up to level 10, so it’s not an entirely representative slice, but it did highlight a lot of interesting elements to the upcoming xpac.

Finally getting some playtime with Diablo III feels like the highlight of my Blizzcon. The character selection screen – with its symphonic overture of strings and soft notes – shows the five classes: Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, Witch Doctor and Demon Hunter. I managed to get some time with the Witch Doctor yesterday: he felt ridiculously powerful, able to summon a pack of undead hounds to kill enemies, or a fetish that turns them into chickens. Today I’ll check out the Demon Hunter.

Day 2 of Operation Wade Through The Blizzard Fanboys (who are surprisingly well-dressed). More World of Warcraft, more Diablo III, more DOTA, more Starcraft II. Even today, the longest line of the show isn’t for any of those, but for the merchandise booth instead. I would not be surprised if the total in sales for Blizzard-themed merch today surpassed a million dollars.

We are taking many, many photos of many, many things. Most of the best ones will appear in the December issue of NAG alongside the full Blizzcon write-up. In the meantime, here is a sample-platter of stuff from Day 1, after the break:

Taking a more humorous angle with their official Defense of the Ancients, Blizzard pits their various iconic characters like Thrall, Kerrigan, Arthas and the new Diablo III Witchdoctor against each other for the amusement of two gods and “ladder points”. The full FAQ is after the break:

The Diablo III special edition comes with a lot of sweet stuff, and the little soulstone USB stick looks great, except someone's head was in the shot.

World of Warcraft subscribers who opt into the Annual payment model (which means you’re committing to 12 months of payments, but it’s still a monthly payment) will get Diablo III for free. Crazy! You have questions, we can tell. After the break you’ll find the full Blizzcon FAQ with tons of new info about everyone’s favorite monster-clicking simulator:

During the opening ceremony of Blizzcon, a lot of new Heart of the Swarm info was dropped: new units, new tactical considerations, and of course, tons of new Zerg with plenty of new bits added. Would you like to know more? Check out the full FAQ after the break:

Well, here it is. Not surprising anyone really, since the secret got outed when Blizzard registered the domain name, but Mists of Pandaria is the next World of Warcraft expansion. It raises - among many things –  the level cap to 90, introduces the Pandaran as a new playable race (both sides), a new Monk class and a pet combat system.

The full FAQ is after the break, it will have everything you need (except the expansion itself, you addict you).
