Last week Michael (aka The Editor, RedTide, Our Fearless Leader) and I were at E3 soaking up ALL the things on the latest games and hardware. We know that seeing moving pictures is way, way easier than reading walls of text, and so I strapped a camera to my chest and wondered through the halls of E3 2013 so that you didn’t have to – and so that you also didn’t have to read a wall of text describing what it’s actually like to walk through the halls of E3. Spoiler: it’s pretty damn amazing.

So, after the jump you’ll find a home baked NAG video embedded snuggly amongst the HTML code that binds this website together. The whole thing is about 5:30 minutes in total, so perhaps you should grab a cup of coffee/tea/gin to sip quietly as you allow the visual stimulation to permeate your eyeballs?

Hit that jump and leave us some feedback.

e3 2013

Hello again everybody, and welcome to the most exciting time of the year for gamers. The annual E3 expo happened this week, and with it came all the big reveals and exciting announcements we’ve come to expect from the world’s biggest gaming showcase. This week I’ll be talking almost exclusively about E3; taking you through the PR nightmares, disappointments and highlights of the next-gen console war, all the new games you can look forward to playing on aforementioned next-gen hardware, and more videos than you can possibly watch in one sitting (unless you’re Wesley Fick). It’s a lengthy one this week folks, so find a comfy chair, stay hydrated and hit the jump.

After lurking in the shadows since 2009, Thief (no longer stylised as Thi4f, thank the Master Builder) has stepped back into into the light for a quick glimpse at E3 to show off Garrett’s next-gen-powered leather fetish gear.

titanfall e3 2013 header

If you’re a fan of badass sci-fi multiplayer shooters featuring gigantic mechs and jet packs – and that’s pretty much everybody, isn’t it? –  you’re probably already head over gravboots in love with Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall, debuted at E3 during Microsoft’s Monday night conference. If you’re a fan of PlayStation, however, you’re probably not so much in love with the game being exclusive to Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Don’t throw yourself onto an incoming rocket just yet, though, because maybe there’s still a bit of hope.

Mario Kart 8, coming early 2014. Twelve-kart online races are back, and this time tracks make heavy splits into alternate paths using the new anti-gravity mechanic that lets races stick to specific surfaces. It’s a little Speed Racer up in here.

You’ll be able to share highlight videos of your races to Miiverse, and hang gliders / underwater racing return, along with motorbikes and mid-air tricks. Eyeball some screenshots below the jump.

EDIT: Story originally reported a confirmed 60fps and 1080p, which was a mistake. It’s not been confirmed, but it’s not off the table either. The information was originally in reference to the new Smash Bros.

Alienware updated their laptop lineup at E3 today and its the first major redesign that the company’s Alienware lineup has ever undergone. It still retains the extraneous use of LEDs for lighting effects and they still look like they weigh a brick, but hey – it’s still the premium gaming brand after all these years. The new family updates itself with Intel’s Haswell processors and Nvidia’s Geforce 700 graphics card family and makes a few changes to the internals as well. Details and pictures from are inside.

In a move nobody saw coming (and that the Internet is still reeling over), a new character for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. (Wii U / 3DS) was revealed this week: the female Wii Fit Trainer.

Of course, that’s not the only new character, but it was certainly the most surprising. Also joining the fight is the Villager from Animal Crossing, and old-school Megaman sporting the best look he’s had in years. You can watch the full trailer, and Megaman’s reveal, past the jump. Personally, I’m just glad Bowser’s moveset  has been redesigned from the ground up. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS is set to launch in 2014.

While Microsoft has already published its own (controversial) policy about game licensing and the Xbox One, Sony’s E3 announcement that the PlayStation 4 won’t be doing anything like that wasn’t quite what it looked like.

playstation plus multiplayer

Me and my Magic 8 Ball have been predicting that Sony would introduce paid multiplayer to the PlayStation Network for the last three hundred years or so already, and that prophecy has finally come true. And they called me mad! MAD, I TELL YOU! They don’t even have the doctor’s report to prove it because I buried it in the garden last week, just next to the gnomes, and nobody will ever find it. Or them. Shh, we don’t talk about the gnomes anymore, not after what happened last time.

Anyway, in between big announcements that the PlayStation 4 doesn’t impose any restrictive DRM policies, won’t require an online check-in every 24 hours, isn’t region-locked, will be sold much cheaper than the Xbox One, and can solve cold case murders, Sony also quietly added that “Oh, by the way, the console will require a paid PlayStation Plus subscription for online multiplayer.”

Is it such a bad thing, though? Sony thinks not.
