Perhaps you were one of those who contributed to Fallout Shelter’s 70 million plays per day when the mobile app first launched? Since Bethesda unveiled the iOS game at E3, the little post-apocalypse-management-sim-that-could has been going from strength to strength. Case in point: it raked in about $5.1 million in microtransactions within the first two weeks.
This is according to website SuperData’s June report on the gaming industry, in which the market data company praised Bethesda for cracking a pretty hard nut in terms of core gamers and their general opinion towards mobile titles. “By emphasizing unobtrusive monetization and offline playability,” the report reads, “Bethesda managed to earn the respect of a consumer group that is otherwise highly critical of free-to-play monetization.” Further great news is that Fallout Shelter managed to topple Candy Crush Saga as the top grossing mobile game for the month. Take that, King Games!
You can pick up Fallout Shelter for free on iOS, with an Android version expected sometime next month.
