And the award for most pirated game of 2011 goes to

Videogame piracy – man that sh!t gets everywhere. With the end of a year comes an endless barrage of “top x to be y in 2011” lists. Here we have the top 5 PC, Wii and Xbox 360 titles to be shamelessly stolen during 2011.

Want to take a guess which of the three platforms had the highest numbers of pirated games? Hah! What a stupid guessing game – we all know it was the PC. Two games overlap on the PC and Xbox 360, with the PC boasting piracy figures that are literally millions of instances greater than the Xbox 360 equivalent.

Copious waggling: soon in HD (maybe)

Pictured: not the Wii HD

According to the infinite power of the Internet’s Anonymous Sources™, Nintendo may or may not be set to reveal a new console at or before this year’s E3 – which takes place from the 7th to the 9th of June. Game Informer cites “multiple sources” as the foundation for this rumour, who reckon that the console will land sometime next year, complete with HD graphics.

IGN then poured a ton of fuel on this rumour’s flames, claiming to have found some anonymous sources of their own who reported that the new console would boast backwards compatibility with all Wii games. Their sources also state that this fabled successor to the Wii is “significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.”

Epic collector’s edition for Epic Mickey

Have you gotten tired of your plain old white Wii just sitting there, looking painfully boring and boasting a distinct lack of Disney’s flagship character? Then this ought to put a smile on your face. Game-industry legend Warren Spector’s newest baby, Epic Mickey, is getting a nifty collector’s edition if this Toys ‘R Us product listing is to be believed.

In the box you’ll find a copy of Epic Mickey (obviously), a behind-the-scenes DVD that’ll likely feature all the usual making-of videos (along with some extra stuff), an Epic Mickey-themed faceplate for your Wii remote and two skins for the console itself so you can pretty up your Wii. Also in that special packaging is a five-inch vinyl figure of the game’s beloved protagonist.

Epic Mickey Collectors Edition

Here, have a pretty picture so you can see all the swag for yourself.

Toys ‘R Us has their pre-order price listed as $69.99 (around R560). No word yet on local pricing or whether it’ll even be available here in SA.

Toddler mistakes real gun for Wii peripheral

In a tragic turn of events, it seems that a three-year-old toddler from Tennesse, Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan,  accidentally shot herself after mistaking her stepfather’s loaded pistol for a Wii gun peripheral. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. Apparently her stepfather left his gun out on the living room table after checking for a prowler earlier that evening. So far the police are treating it as a genuine accident. Seems rather irresponsible on the part of the parents, if you ask me.

Even though it's the parents who are to blame, I wouldn't be surprised if videogame peripherals start getting it in the neck.

Wii like to exercise

Publisher Black Bean has just released some more screenshots and information about its upcoming Wii fitness title, NewU Fitness: First Personal Trainer, which is currently in development by Lightning Fish. This latest attempt to get gamers exercising, or at least moving something other than their thumbs, aims to be the complete workout package. In addition to giving gamers the ability to monitor and keep track of their meals and calorie intakes, it will also allow them to set up and work out a programme for themselves according to specific goals – just as if they had their own personal trainer. These goals fall into four categories: Sport, Shape, General Health, and Special. I know that non-gamers or the more casual gamers are quite taken with this stuff, but I wonder how many hardcore gamers would be into it?
