Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that the popular trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh! has received a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling trading card game to date. That would put it ahead of giants like Magic: The Gathering and Vampire, which might be hard to believe for followers of these more “hardcore” fantasy card games. However, this record was recorded based on the 22,587,728,173 cards that had been sold as of April 2009, so it probably won’t hold this record for too long. The Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG first shipped in 1999 – so if another TCG can exceed this number in a 10 year period, we’ll have a new champion. For those who don’t know, Yu-Gi-Oh! is the official trading card game counterpart to the popular Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and anime series, created by Kazuki Takahashi.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! videogames are all very well - but you just can't beat the feeling of a handful of glossy card, now can you?
