Press release: All things weird and wonderful @ rAge 2010

Across the country hardcore techno-geeks, gamers and fun-loving families are getting ready for the onslaught of gaming awesomeness that will be found at rAge, taking place from 01-03 October at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg.  Besides all the latest game releases, new console peripheral unveilings, computer hardware launches and the incredible specials; there’s some weird and wonderful stuff that’s definitely worth checking out.

The official EA SPORTS MMA game is being released in retail on 22 October, and to give gamers an idea of what they can look forward to, EA Games and XFC Africa have brought in the real deal.  A total of 12 exhibition matches with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) cage fighters will be featured on their stand at rAge, cage and all, during specific times on Saturday (11:00-12:00 & 15:00-16:00) and Sunday (15:00-16:00).  A qualified referee will be present to give expo visitors the low-down on what fighting types the combatants will be displaying and make sure that the fight is conducted according to the official MMA rules.  EA will also be showcasing code (sneak preview) the official EA SPORTS MMA game as well as Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, The Sims 3 on console, Medal of Honour, Dead Space 2, EA SPORTS FIFA 11, EA SPORTS Active 2 and Dragon Age 2 at their stand to give gamers a hands-on feel of the games.

MSI/Corex have done it again – they’re flying out two of the best international Quake players to mingle and meet all our South African rAgers.  Sebastian Siira aka ‘Party Spart1e’ has enjoyed success at some of the world’s greatest gaming events such as Dream Hack, Quakecon and ESWC Athens  to name a few.  Breaking onto the scene in 2006, Sebastian is considered one of the more laid back players which may come as a surprise given he won 4th place at this year’s QuakeCon 2010. Pierre-Emeric link1n Portier from France has been a key player on Fanatic MSI’s CTF team since he joined in 2009.  Pierre recently announced his intentions of practicing and preparing to become a Duellist after his 2nd place win at CTF QuakeCon 2010.  Visit the MSI/Corex stand to meet and take your chances to “beat” the fanatic guys.   Awesome prizes are up for grabs for the highest scorer against the world’s best!

For the more technically inclined rAge visitors, Frontosa will be pushing the limits of various PC components, including the Intel 980 extreme, the latest and greatest processor on the market at the moment, valued at R70,000.  As you PC drag racers know, when the safeguard on these components is by-passed to increase the voltage and see what they can really do, temperatures soar.  So to ensure a R70,000 processor isn’t blown in the first five seconds, the experienced Frontosa team will use copious amounts of Liquid Nitrogen to cool the components; approximately 10 litres per day for the duration of the expo.   The IT specialists will also be showcasing their latest discovery: the blissful union of ATI and NVIDIA.  Revealing that, with a little tweaking, gamers can have the best of both worlds – the speed of ATI and the detail of NVIDIA in one house, amplifying the gaming experience.

Inspir3D Design could make you the next Lara Croft or Wolverine!  Their talented team use cutting-edge technology to do a 3D scan of your face, create and then print a customised 3D figure of your favourite character.  The Inspir3D Design Centre is a division of the Technology Station at VUT and has some of the most advanced Rapid Prototyping (Layer by Layer 3D Printing) and Robotic-based 3D Milling equipment in South Africa, of which examples will be on display at rAge.
