If you haven’t heard about this already, we figured we should make you aware of the fact that indie megahit Minecraft Alpha is currently free to play for a limited time. Following a huge server overload (or something) that’s made a bunch of Minecraft Alpha stuff break, burn and explode (probably thanks to a huge influx of players brought on by Penny Arcade’s recent Minecraft-themed comic, in conjunction with the awesomeness of Rock, Paper, Shotgun’s recent gameplay diary thing), creator Markus “Notch” Persson has declared the game free to play until he can sort out the issues. Notch reckons the problems should be fixed today, so you don’t have much time left.
I’m not going to bother trying to describe the brilliantly inventive (and infuriatingly addictive) sandbox/survival game that is Minecraft Alpha. Instead, download it here and experience it for yourself. Be sure to check the Minecraft wiki if things are a bit confusing when you first start out. Oh, and if this entire news post made no sense – I don’t care. Too busy playing Minecraft to care about something as trivial as making sense.
