Gotham City Impostors is bizarre; has potential

Monolith (the team behind F.E.A.R. but more importantly behind 1997’s Blood) was at E3 showing off their new, slightly odd Batman FPS. I know right; a Batman FPS? Crazy!

Called Gotham City Impostors, the game is a downloadable, team-based multiplayer FPS. Think Batman mixed with Call of Duty and Team Fortress 2. There are two teams: one is a group of vigilantes who dress up like Batman and the other is a group of maniacs who think The Joker is awesome; and they’d be right. No actual Batman characters will make an appearance, which for a game like this is probably a good thing. The thought of Bats and Joker running around CoD style maps shooting each other with AK-47s and M16 rifles is just stupid.

Still, the crazy Joker followers and goofy vigilantes all running around maps modelled off Gotham carnivals and other settings are a welcomed change to the military FPS schlock we’re faced with all the time. The game is due for a downloadable release sometime next year on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Check out the trailer below.
