As a chainsaw-wielding, zombie slaying cheerleader. In case their previous games didn’t already tell you, developer Grasshopper Manufacture dig them some weird-ass games. They’re into stylised action with a certain edge to it; just look at No More Heroes and their more recent Shadows of the Damned.
Thanks to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, we get a glimpse of Grasshopper Manufacture’s next game, which officially has the best title of any game in recent memory: Lollipop Chainsaw. Think Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayer meets something with chainsaws – MadWorld I guess! It’s not going to be your typical blood and guts gore fest. Instead, when you hack up the hapless undead hordes, you’ll get sprays of pink, sparkly glitter rather than gallons of putrid, coagulated blood.
The game is meant to have that typical, Japanese pop-icon feel to it, as protagonist Juliet rushes around San Romero High School with her personalised, girly chainsaw complete with heart decals. Because she comes from a long line of zombie slayers, and because she’s a cheerleader, Juliet will be most agile and undeniably adept at severing the limbs from the undead menace – zombie slaying is one of the cornerstones to being a good cheerleader, obviously. Lollipop Chainsaw is due for release on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
