Actor Nathan Fillion looks a lot like Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games. Fillion plays character Malcolm Reynolds in the sci-fi series Firefly; Reynolds has numerous character similarities to that of Nathan Drake. And hey, wouldn’t you know it, but actor Fillion and character Drake are both named Nathan; that’s too many coincidences to ignore!
So naturally, because we’re gamers and therefore all suffer from overbearing entitlement issues, our vocal mass has made it very clear that we want Nathan Fillion to play Drake in the upcoming Uncharted film adaptation.
Thankfully, we all narrowly avoided an unmitigated disaster of an Uncharted film, as director David O. Russell has abandoned the project and Neil Burger signed up as his replacement. Burger will be sticking to what made Uncharted awesome to begin with and won’t be filming some ludicrous interpretation of the games.
Fillion has heard it loud and clear; he knows that rabid gaming fans want him as Drake in the film. Speaking at this year’s Comic-Con, Fillion basically told everyone to chill out in case new director Neil Burger gets pissed off about the constant nagging, and decides to go against the fans’ wishes out of spite.
“I am certainly still interested in playing Nathan Drake. I think every actor I know wants their action-adventure hero, their Indiana Jones. That would be a good one for me, I think. What I don’t want is people pressuring that poor man [new director Neil Burger] and souring him on the actual idea. If we could somehow just… do you remember the movie Inception? I think that’s what we need to do. We need to let him land on the idea on his own.”
It’s unlikely Burger will “land on the idea on his own”. He has, undoubtedly, done a spot of research online, and one cannot hope to Google “Uncharted + film” without getting a trillion results with the name Nathan Fillion jammed into the discussion.
