It’s been rumoured for some time now that Starbreeze Studios, the development team behind games like The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness, is busy working on a reboot of Syndicate. The original Syndicate was a top-down isometric (thanks, Chippit!), squad-based RTS game that saw you kitting out a group of four agents with all sorts of sci-fi weaponry and cyberpunk enhancements in order to take on rival syndicate groups. It was developed by Bullfrog Productions, which was founded by Peter Molyneux and Les Edgar back in the late ‘80s.
Starbreeze has been tinkering away on a project that’s been codenamed “RedLime”. It is believed that RedLime is in fact the Syndicate reboot that will be published by EA Games. According to a Tweet by one of Starbreeze’s developers (which has since been pulled from the Twitter account): “Grand moment approaching. The reveal for #starbreeze and EA’s project #redlime time to meet the press.”
The most obvious reveal period is at next week’s Gamescom. NAG Online will be attending the EA press conference so we’ll fill you in as soon as we get to see what Project RedLime actually is. If it is a Syndicate reboot then pray to god they don’t turn it into an FPS as has been rumoured.
