Crytek’s FPS behemoth that made 2007’s PCs scream and die a little inside, is now out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game has been completely remade for the consoles and runs on CryEngine 3, which is what powered this year’s Crysis 2. It looks really, really pretty on consoles! In fact, it looks and runs infinitely better than my PC was able to run it when the game first came out, and even back then my PC had much higher specs than an Xbox 360. Man, that’s just not fair!
Console Crysis does not feature the multiplayer component of the original PC release, so don’t jump in expecting anything other than the single-player campaign. That, however, is worth the price of admission alone because despite having to deal with constant crashes and god-awful frame rates, I thoroughly enjoyed the game when I first played it on PC. The console version looks set to be a much better first time experience, so count your lucky stars console gamers.
The game costs $19.99 or £14.99 depending on your account’s region. I was going to check the local pricing on my PS3 but wouldn’t you know it, there’s a system update required before I can log in and I don’t have the patience to sit through a 160MB download. Thanks Sony.
