Watching things die colourfully in Kingdoms of Amalur

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning looks great. We’ve spoken about it quite a bit on this website (there’s even an interview with the Ken Rolston somewhere here… oh, here it is) and we got some delectable hands-on time with it at this year’s Gamescom. The game’s biggest draw cards? Well, apart from Rolston being at the helm, it would have to be the combat mechanics; that and it’s just so colourful!

In the following video you’ll get to see that combat in action. Bows, warhammers, magic, over-the-top “Fate Shift” execution moves, they’re all there and damn, it all looks good. There have been numerous action RPGs in the past that have claimed to merge third-person action combat games with deeper role-playing elements, but they haven’t quite “got” the combat bit nailed. After having given the combat a test drive, we can say that Reckoning has been doing its homework.

The Fable meets God of War action RPG is set to land on 10 February 2012. It’ll be on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
