Upcoming trilogy finale Mass Effect 3 is getting the iOS App tie-in treatment. BioWare made the announcement at a recent press event in New York. An iOS game entitled Mass Effect: Infiltrator will bring a third-person shooter to iPhone, iPod touch and iPad; the game will tie in with your single-player campaign of Mass Effect 3.

In Mass Effect: Infiltrator you’ll be tasked with rescuing prisoners from a Cerberus base. According to BioWare: “every completed rescue and intelligence discovery in Infiltrator will increase a player’s Galactic Readiness rating directly through the ‘Galaxy at War’ system in Mass Effect 3.” The “Galaxy at War” system is the multiplayer aspect of Mass Effect 3; the outcome of which contributes to your single-player campaign. Mass Effect: Infiltrator will also unlock exclusive weapons for use in Mass Effect 3.

On top of the third-person shooter, BioWare announced that they would be bringing another Mass Effect App to iOS, which has been dubbed the “Datapad”. This App will allow you to “stay in touch with all of the info in Mass Effect 3”. It’ll also send you text message from some of the Mass Effect characters. Yes. Really.
