It gets everywhere: June 29th is Spec Ops day

Spec Ops: The Line (which I’ve written about extensively, both in the magazine and on this very website) now has a release date. The game, set in Dubai, hopes to embed ludicrous amounts of desert sand and devastated opulence in your eyeholes on June 29th this year.

It’s definitely worth getting excited about. The single-player storyline’s ballsy mix of tactical shooting and wartime survival horroring is massively promising, but you should click this link to read more words on it. Head beyond the jump to learn a tiny bit about the multiplayer, read a quote and gain knowledge on pre-order bonuses.

Spec Ops: The Line is 2K Games’ first foray into the military shooter genre,” said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. “We’ve created a unique game that explores the dark realities of war and places players in difficult situations where the line between right and wrong becomes increasingly blurred as players fight to survive.”

Important phrases regarding the multiplayer include “class-based multiplayer experience,” “squad-based games” and “visually stunning environments.” The pre-order bonuses, which will apparently be available at select retailers, allude to the obligatory persistent stats, perk/weapon unlocks and character customisation. Here’s what you’ll get when you pre-order, designed to give early adopters an early advantage in the multiplayer:

•    Twice the amount of experience points will be awarded during the first week of play, enabling gamers to expedite character ranking;
•    The AK-47 weapon will unlock at rank one;
•    The “Officer Class” will unlock at rank one. This character class includes several team-based advantages, such as reducing damage to teammates and increasing the effectiveness of other classes;
•    Access to the “FUBAR Pack,” which contains exclusive accessories allowing players to customize their characters with unique and visually distinctive items.

Spec Ops: The Line will be available on PC, 360 and PS3.
