Fable Heroes is a cutesy take on Lionhead’s franchise

What’s this? A new listing for a downloadable game from Lionhead Studios has just cropped up on Xbox.com. There’s been no announcement by Microsoft or Lionhead, which is somewhat odd. My guess is that somebody jumped the gun and posted the listing and information a little early. The annual Game Developer’s Conference starts today so it’s likely this game will be officially announced in the coming days, or the next few minutes seeing as how Lionhead.com has a count-down clock to a special announcement.

Fable Heroes is a four-player co-op brawler set in the Fable universe. It’s had a serious aesthetic make-over however, and looks like the bastard child of LittleBigPlanet and Death Spank, which is to say it looks totally charming and quite lovely.

According to the official blurb on Xbox.com you’ll have to “work together as heroes of Albion to defeat familiar foes and new enemies while collecting as many gold coins as possible to unlock upgrades, characters, and items in both this game and Fable: The Journey for Kinect”.

The game will feature both local and online co-op for up to four players. Judging by the screenshots on Xbox.com, you’ll be able to play as the legendary heroes you recruited in Fable II. Come to think of it, the characters in Fable Heroes look remarkably like the Hero Dolls you had to collect in Fable II. I smell a conspiracy.
