In a move likely to annoy veteran users, Microsoft has announced that they intend to nullify any and all hacks that will re-enable the Start Button and Start Menu in the upcoming Windows 8 OS. This includes software such as Classic Shell which currently works on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Microsoft will accomplish this by removing any and all legacy code that can be used to re-active the disabled features. However, it still is theoretically possible to clone the functionality of the Start Button using completely new code. Either way, it seems ironic that the old familiar “Start” is now “Finished”.
