A company called Uniloc is suing a load of game developers and publishers thanks to a patent infringement. Uniloc claims that their patent (referred to in the court filing as “patent ‘067”) has been ripped off by: Mojang (aka the blokes who brought us Minecraft), Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Gameloft (who publishes a ton of mobile games), Halfbrick (Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride), Madfinger Games (Shadowgun, Dead Trigger), Laminar Research, Polarbit and Full Fat.

All of these companies have been issued notification of pending litigation by an east Texas court. Uniloc’s patent ‘067 is for a “system and method for preventing unauthorized access to electronic data”.

Mojang’s Markus “Notch” Persson is convinced this is a patent troll attempt on behalf of Uniloc to make a quick buck. He’s also added that he’s willing to “throw piles of money” at the litigation in order to make sure Uniloc doesn’t receive a cent.
