Shane Satterfield, the editor-in-chief for GameTrailers, has claimed that Nintendo’s next console will cost $299 when it launches during the holiday period this year. Discussed during the website’s 217th episode, they cited “certain channels” as their source of information.
The suggested price of $299 is very close to a previous suggestion that the Wii U will launch below the £250 mark. That suggestion was made by a “senior publishing source” during a conversation with website MCV.
That’s two separate sources citing corresponding price ranges for the Wii U. Both the US dollar and pound price translate to around the R2, 500 mark for us in South Africa. That’s a good deal for a brand new console, but don’t hold your breath. Nintendo is yet to make any official comment on retailer pricing for the Wii U.
