The HTC Desire HD won’t get an ICS upgrade after all

If you’re a NAGling and you’re currently browsing this column using your Desire HD, I have some bad news for you – that update to ICS 4.04 isn’t coming. HTC officially announced through its blog that it won’t be updating the Desire HD to Ice Cream Sandwich because the way the device was originally set up means that it would require re-partitioning of the phone’s application and user data folders. Thus it isn’t possible to do an upgrade to ICS without deleting some data or breaking something else vitally important during the process. With that said, though, there’s always Cyanogen’s v9 ICS ROM for you to try out and a ROM for Jelly Bean is also in the early beta phase.

Still, if you wanted to stay abreast of updates to the Android OS and mostly beat everyone else to it, its probably time for you to consider a Google Nexus device.

I just got an email with the subject line “PRESS ALERT: CYBERPUNK 2077” but it’s not about a delay so it’s okay
