Minecraft is one of the most interesting and successful projects to come out of the games industry in the past ten years. Independently developed and published, it is now one of the most played games in the world, with over 6 million PC gamers and another 3 million on Xbox LIVE (as well as a bunch on iOS and Android) having signed up to date.
Its signature cube aesthetic is immediately recognisable, and has many fans and detractors alike. For those that remain unconvinced, there are countless fan-made mods which alter the way the game looks in various ways. The latest of these to make a splash was created by Cody “Sonic Ether” Darr, and its called “Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders”.
As the name suggests, the mod adds some genuinely impressive lighting and water effects to Minecraft, and is a must see to anyone who plays Minecraft. Be sure to check out his related mods, including one which adds rippling effects to tree leaves and grass! Below are some screenshots of the mod in action.
