AnvilNext is the gaming engine powering Ubisoft’s next entry into their highly successful Assassin’s Creed franchise. The publisher’s proprietary tech has seen some nifty improvements since we last leaped from rooftops to stab Templars in the face.
To highlight the new features of the engine, Ubisoft has released a new trailer for the game. There’s quite a bit of new footage to be seen, much of which is geared towards showing off how detailed the environments have become. While the Assassin’s Creed games have always played on crowd dynamics within their cities, Assassin’s Creed III will definitely be taking that up a notch thanks to the engine’s ability to populate scenes with thousands of NPCs at once.
For me, the shining achievement in the technological jump in Assassin’s Creed III is by far the fluid animations of its lead character. Connor’s movements have been recaptured from scratch, meaning none of the previous character animations from past Assassin’s Creed games have made it into Assassin’s Creed III.
