Snake was already pretty old in the most recent Metal Gear Solid 4, but that’s not stopping Hideo Kojima and Konami from bringing out another game staring the sneakiest guy around. Judging by the early images, the game will be set some time prior to the event of MG4 because Snake looks quite a bit younger than when we last saw him.

Announced during a Konami presentation in Tokyo, the game is called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and its debut was also used to show off the already impressive Fox Engine. But there’s another surprising revelation: Ground Zeroes is going to be an open-world Metal Gear game that mixes stealth with escape gameplay mechanics. Ordinarily, the stealth heavy title would end the moment you’re discovered, but in Ground Zeroes, discovery will result in you having to escape the scene.

It’s interesting (or ballsy) that Konami chose to reveal a new Metal Gear game before Metal Gear Solid: Rising Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is even out of the door. The Fox Engine is being aimed at current-gen platforms as well as next-gen consoles, but the demo shown off in Tokyo was running on a contemporary PC.
