The development team behind Sony stalwarts like Ratchet & Clank and the Resistance series has a new game in the works. Originally unveiled at E3 last year, the game was called Overstrike. That name is no more – meet Fuse, the latest entry into the co-op, third-person shooter genre.

The game looks like it’s channelling Gears of War with loads of cover, four-player co-op and bad guys getting ripped apart with weaponry. There are four characters to choose from and each one fulfils the various roles ordinarily found in co-operative setups. You’ve got your tank, sniper, stealth and support class covered by Dalton, Jacob, Naya and Izzy respectively.

When it comes to making outlandish and memorable weapons, no development team does it quite like Insomniac; Fuse will continue that tradition. The game’s main premise is built around the concept of an alien substance dubbed fuse. The substance has various reactive properties when combined with other materials. Hit the jump for the trailer to see what I’m talking about.

The game is heading to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, making this the first time Insomniac has made a game for Microsoft’s console. You can check out more screenshots and information over the game’s main website.
