Obsidian’s new RPG funded in three days

OK, I know I’ve said something similar before, but what the hell did developers do before the whole Kickstarter craze? That being said, there have been a bajillion games kickstarter-ed, but we haven’t actually got to play any as yet. Unless I’ve missed something?

Obsidian, the guys currently working on South Park: The Stick of Truth, teased a new project over the last couple of days. That culminated in the reveal of a new Kickstarter project entitled Project Eternity – a new RPG game from the veterans of Black Isle’s Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale period. Basically, it’s a new isometric RPG game from the people who practically wrote the book on making cool, isometric RPG games.

According to the game’s Kickstarter page: “Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.” Yep, that’s pretty much every RPG geek’s wet dream right there.

Initially, the project was aiming for $1.1 million, which they accumulated in three days. At time of writing, the project is sitting with over $1.4 million and another 29 days on the clock. As a result of this extra mound of cash, Obsidian is busy developing stretch goals – the added features that will be coming to the game thanks to the expanded budget. Think along the lines of extra character customisation, additional party companions, player houses and more.
