Irrational Games has had a bumpy couple of months with the development of BioShock Infinite; they’ve been shedding key staff members at an unsettling rate. Fortunately that doesn’t seem to be a cause for too much concern as BioShock Infinite is back in the news with positive things to share, like this whopping collector’s edition known as the “Ultimate Songbird Edition”.
This edition’s crowning piece is pretty obvious: the resin-cast 25cm tall Songbird statue. In the game, the Songbird is the, uh, thing that keeps Elizabeth hostage and pursues you through the lofty city of Columbia. The creature itself was designed by Robb Waters, one of Irrational’s concept artists and the man behind other iconic characters like BioShock’s Little Sisters.
In addition to the statue you’ll also get a hardcover, 64-page art book, which is actually a mini-edition of the full-sized Art of BioShock book that is being published separately by Dark Horse Books. You’ll also get a 2.5cm resin-cast Handyman figurine that will be usable in the upcoming BioShock board game entitled “BioShock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia”. Finally, the collector’s edition also includes a 7.6cm Murder of Crows tonic bottle keychain.
The other standard collector’s edition odds and ends are included as well: digital soundtrack, a lithograph (depicting a piece of Columbia’s propaganda), in-game items to give you a bit of a boost, and platform specific content that covers avatar costumes of Booker and Elizabeth on Xbox 360, or BioShock Infinite themes for PC and PlayStation 3 owners.
The Ultimate Songbird Edition will sell for $149.99 across all three platforms. It’s heading to EU territories as well so will in all likelihood hit our South African shores. If you don’t want to fork out that much, you can opt for the slightly more demure Premium Edition of the game, which comes with everything mentioned above except for the Songbird statue; that edition sells for $79.99.
BioShock Infinite is out on 19 February 2013.
