Those crazy guys Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, who together make up the programing duo known as Team Meat, have announced a new game via their official blog. It’s called Mew-Genics and in case you didn’t notice in the above header image, it’s “a game about cats… kinda.”

There is very little to go on at the moment, but the project is a result of a game jam the two did over a weekend. According to McMillen, the new game was unexpected and “totally out of left field”. As a result, they’re putting development of the new PC and iOS version of Super Meat Boy (known as SMB: TG) on hold for now. That being said, they’re reiterating just how quickly Mew-Genics’ development is going, so don’t anticipate a lengthy delay.

For now, you’ll have to keep an eye on their blog for more information on “by far the strangest project [they’ve] ever worked on.” That statement is probably a little disconcerting seeing as how their previous project starred a slab of meat attempting to rescue his girlfriend from an evil foetus piloting a robotic glass jar.
