CD Projekt Red has unveiled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt via the March edition of Game Informer magazine. The “standalone sequel” is set to hit PC and “all high-end platforms available” in 2014. No prizes for guessing that the “high-end platforms” CD Projekt refers to are the next generation of consoles.
The Witcher 3 will be built on the new REDengine 3, which will allow the game to be completely open world in the same way that other RPGs like The Elder Scrolls are open world. That means you’ll be able to travel from one side of the game world to the other without ever seeing a loading screen. Insofar as size goes, CD Projekt is calling the game world “30 times larger” than The Witcher 2, or bigger than Skyrim‘s landmass.
Last month, CD Projekt Red teased an announcement for 05 February. That tease was hidden inside the first trailer for another project they’re busy with, Cyberpunk 2077. There’s a brief video (after the jump) that provides some background to The Witcher 3 and shows off some of the concept art.
