New Skyrim beta patch 1.9 removes level cap

Bethesda has announced the availability of a new patch 1.9 for Skyrim. Currently in beta testing on the PC version, the patch will be released across all platforms in the coming months. On top of a ton of bug fixes (you can read the whole list of the fixes over here), the patch allows you to reset maxed out skill trees to 15 so that they can be levelled again to a Legendary status.

“Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again,” the post explains. “This effectively removes the overall level cap.” In addition to this skill tree reset option, Bethesda has added a new Legendary difficulty setting.

Personally, I’m not sure why you’d want to lose all the skill perks you’ve spent countless hours acquiring, only to do it all over again for a bigger number next to your character’s name, but that’s just me. Don’t forget that this is a beta patch for now so you’ll need to opt in over Steam if you want to give it a whirl. Simply right click on the Skyrim icon in your Steam library; go to Properties; select the Beta tab and choose opt in on the drop down menu. Don’t forget to back up your saved games before you give the patch a whirl; you know, just in case things explode.
