Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, the standalone spin-off to the recent island hopping FPS, is looming over the apocalyptic horizon. As it looms there, looking all dramatic and neon coloured, some equally dramatic synthesised music pew-pews in the background. No 1980s science fiction action film was ever complete without trippy synthesised music. Seeing as Blood Dragon is channelling the best (worst?) of that now long-lost film genre, it needs cheesy synth music too.

To emphasise just how seriously Ubisoft is taking this whole ‘80s infused spin-off, they’ve released a five minute short providing some background to the game. It’s amazing. Like the kind of amazing that has cyborg commandos, face implants, laser Gatling guns and an epic laser samurai sword showdown against the background of a blooming mushroom cloud.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is available for pre-order on Steam. The game is out in mere weeks. It’s going to be incredible. I can feel it.
