Kent Hudson used to work for LucasArts. We don’t talk about LucasArts any longer so we’ll just leave it at that. He also helped design games like Deus Ex: Invisible War and BioShock 2. He’s got a new project in the works called The Novelist, which follows the day-to-day events of a family of three.
The father, Dan Kaplan, is a novelist working on “the most important book of his career” while on holiday with his son and wife. Dan has to juggle being a husband and father while trying to get his novel done. He’s going to need all sorts of help to get that right, and that’s where you the player comes in.
You’re a ghostly presence in this holiday house. You’ll be able to float around rooms, reading thoughts and watching each member of the family. You’ll be able to influence them but you need to keep out of sight at all times. The game promises loads of choices, with each choice influencing the direction of the story. Multiple playthroughs are also promised. Hit the jump to see the first trailer.
The game is currently up on Steam Greenlight where Hudson hopes to get enough support to get the game off the ground. You can find that over here.
