Sonic Team (mostly the part that did the excellent Sonic Colours) brings back a kind of  Sonic X-treme vibe with Sonic Lost World.

Exclusive to Wii U and 3DS, the Super Mario Galaxy influences are clear: planetoidal surfaces that Sonic can race along (at three different speeds, depending on if you’re holding down neither, one, or both triggers). The shape of the terrain eliminates much of the camera issues that plague 3D action games, and allows for structured camera segments that look like the classic 2D Sonic games. Mild parkour systems for mantling edges, and the return of Whisp-based “Colour Powers” using the Wii U’s gamepad.
