Ellen Page upset by Ellie likeness in The Last of Us

The uncanny similarity between The Last of Us character Ellie and actress Ellen Page has been a thing ever since the game was revealed at the Spike TV Video Game Awards in 2011. Ellen Page has never been involved in the project, but is involved in another Sony exclusive called Beyond: Two Souls. When The Last of Us first became public, many thought that Ellen Page was in fact playing the role of Ellie, so striking was the resemblance.

Naughty Dog later went on to alter Ellie’s appearance in the game, and around the same time they began making an effort to promote the character’s actual actress Ashley Johnson. Whether that was in response to all the “oh hey, it’s Ellen Page” comments or because Ellen Page subsequently signed on to Beyond, is up for debate.

Yesterday, Ellen Page took part in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) during which a user asked her if she was aware that she resembled the character of Ellie from The Last of Us. Her response was frank: “I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond: Two Souls, so it was not appreciated.” Shortly after the AMA, The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann fired out the following tweet:
