UPDATE: We’ve got word that local pricing will be capped at R6,299 including VAT. This price is tentative and may actually be lowered as we barrel towards the PS4’s launch day, depending on the strength of the rand.
Last night, during Sony’s Gamescom press conference, Sony’s chief exec Andrew House revealed that the PlayStation 4 will launch on 15 November 2013 in the USA and 29 November 2013 in EU territories. South Africa’s launch dates for gaming hardware and software are normally in line with those of the EU, but from the sounds of things we’ll be about a week behind when it comes to the PlayStation 4.
If you head over to local PlayStation website, you’ll see that the 29 November date is right there, along with a prompt to pre-order yours. Local new website IT News Africa, however, has received word from local PlayStation distributor Ster Kinekor; their CEO Mario Dos Santos says that the PS4 will definitely be out before Christmas in South Africa. We can expect it to hit our shores on 6 December 2013.
The one week delay Dos Santos attributes to “the logistics of getting the stock to our shores”. Still, a delay of only one week is a lot better than the four odd months extra we had to wait for the PlayStation 3. Now all we need is a local price; we’ll keep you updated as soon as we know more.
