At a recent preview event in London, BioWare showed off some brand new gameplay footage for Dragon Age: Inquisition. The Frostbite 3 powered game is looking pretty – very, very pretty.

With the game shifting to a more open-world structure, BioWare has had to make some adjustments to this third entry in the franchise. Base camps are out, so unlike in Origins where you had a place to chat to party members and further relationships before heading out on another quest, Inquisition will follow a different structure. Obviously, the hub-like base camps from Origins complemented the smaller quest locations. Now that the game is much bigger and more open (not quite Skyrim or Witcher 3 open) BioWare is reassessing how the base camp mechanic will work.

Speaking to Eurogamer, BioWare Edmonton’s producer Cameron Lee said, “You could use the Keeps in a similar fashion to that [the base camps]. It’s one of those places where you can restock equipment, but it’s not a replacement for the camp system. We have something else in mind for that, which is a lot more grandiose than even the Keep system. We’ll get into that later on. I think people are going to freak out!”

Combat has seen some improvements since Dragon Age II as well. You can see some of it in action in the new gameplay clip below. While you will be able to pause combat in Inquisition via the returning Tactical View mode, it’s not shown in the clip below.

Don’t forget that BioWare has plans to allow newcomers into the series via Dragon Age Keep, so if this is all looking too tempting for words and you haven’t played any of the previous games, you’ll be able to catch up on lore and save game decisions when the Keep launches next year.
