Damn, this really makes me want to cry manly man tears. Shortly after Disney purchased and subsequently destroyed LucasArts, it was revealed that the ill-fated Star Wars 1313 was going to star Boba Fett. The wounds caused by news of this game’s cancellation were just beginning to scab before IGN came along with another info dump.
Thanks to an anonymous source, IGN was recently shown a 15 minute gameplay clip of Star Wars 1313. That clip was intended for this year’s E3, but the game was canned quite a while before that. In the new gameplay footage, Fett is the main character replacing the nameless placeholder character that originally appeared in the game’s debut video from E3 2012.
The source also shared a plethora of new concept art and explained quite a bit of what was on show. Fett can be seen with a droid partner in some of the concept art, and it was revealed that that droid would have betrayed Fett at a later stage in the game’s plot.
Furthermore, Fett can be seen in some different gear to what we’re used to seeing him in in the original Star Wars trilogy. 1313 was supposed to be set between the prequels and the original trilogy, and it was going to follow the rise of Fett as he worked for crime lord Jabba the Hutt. Consequently, the game was going to be set on Tattooine as well as two levels of Coruscant: the already mentioned 1313 and level 1314, which is a dark, slum environment that nobody has explored for years.
Head on over to IGN to check out some of the concept art. The article makes mention that they cannot share the gameplay “yet”, so hopefully that means they’ll be posting it online at a later stage.
Don’t forget that EA currently owns the rights to publish Star Wars games for a “core” audience; that, according to IGN, includes access to everything that LucasArts was working on. I want to believe, but I just don’t think my geeky little Star Wars heart could take any more disappointment.
