Holy balls, would you look at this game? This is The Forest and it’s an “open world survival horror” that’s in development for the PC. Did I mention that it’s being made to support the Oculus Rift? Because there’s that too.
Indie development team SKS Games has recently had The Forest given the thumbs-up on Steam Greenlight. The game sees you survive a plane crash-landing in a forest. During the day the large open-world is rather idyllic, but at night an army of mutants comes out to eat your face. You have to ensure you’re ready for that by the time sunset rolls around each day.
According to the game’s development blog, you’ll be able to “chop down trees to build a camp, or start a fire to keep warm. Scavenge food to keep yourself from starving. Find and plant seeds to grow food. Build a small shelter or a large ocean side fortress. Decorate your home with found items. Lay traps and defences to keep a safe perimeter.”
In a sense, it’s a little like Minecraft’s survival mode, only they’re going for atmospheric realism rather than blocky cuteness. You can check out the two trailers for the game below. I am so freakin’ sold on this game right now.
