Oh wait, Microsoft IS sticking Cortana into phones

In September last year, reports on Microsoft’s upcoming voice-recognition overhaul for Windows Phones hit the Internet. Back then it was codenamed “zCortana” and all of us gaming nerds laughed and joked about how cool it would be if they actually ended up calling it that and got voice actress Jen Taylor to record all the voice responses.

That’s happening.

Well, at least that’s what it seems is happening if a new rumour over on website MSFTnerd is to be believed. Apparently the Halo voice actor veteran will be reprising her role of the science fiction AI, only this time it’ll be for a cell phone application.

The Bing based service is still being heralded as Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s Siri, and MSFTnerd is claiming that the updated voice recognition will hit Lumia phones in the US by April this year. It’ll expand to the Bing iPhone App a few months later, and then hit international markets between 2015 and 2016.

Cortana will also be coming to Xbox One and Windows PCs in the US sometime during 2015.
